ARMM to establish credible baseline socio-economic statistics
Cotabato City – The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) government wants to establish credible baseline data of the region’s socio-economic standing to help guide policymakers, officials announced during Monday’s launching of the 24th National Statistics Month celebration.
Al-Rashid Haroun Lucman, Jr, ARMM vice-governor and concurrent social welfare secretary, underscored the importance of reliable baseline figures in addressing the high poverty incidence and other dismal human development indicators in the region.
According to figures released by the National Statistics Coordination Board (NSCB), ARMM has a staggering 46.9% poverty incidence for the period of 2009-2012.
“Statistics matter when it is used to plan out policies and programs that will address the needs of the people,” Lucman said.
Consistent with the theme, “Statistics that matter to every Filipino”, Suod Barodi, National Statistics Office (NSO)-ARMM director, said they envision a statistical system that is proactive, responsive and reliable. (bpi)
