Cotabato City (October 15, 2017) – In line with Malacañang’s order to suspend work and classes nationwide on Monday, October 16, 2017 due to the planned nationwide transport strike, Atty. Laissa Alamia, Executive Secretary of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao announced that the region is suspending classes as well as work in all government offices on the same day.
Thousands of commuters are expected to be affected by the nationwide strike tomorrow.
Atty. Alamia urged those who will participate in the protest against the government’s jeepney modernization program to respect other commuters who are not part of the strike.
“We will monitor groups who will participate in the strike tomorrow to assure the safety of the ARMM constituents,” Atty. Alamia said.
The suspension of work in the private sector, Malacañang announced, is subject to the discretion of the employers since it is not covered by the order.
Transport groups are staging a nationwide protest against the government’s scheme to implement the jeepney modernization plan.
Under the modernization program, PUVs more than 15 years old will be banned from the road, and will be replaced by vehicles with “low-carbon and low-emission technology.”
