RG HATAMAN AWARDS SCHOLARSHIP CERTIFICATES TO BASILAN STUDENTS
Lamitan City- 226 students hailing from the province of Basilan received their Certificates of Scholarship from Regional Governor Mujiv S. Hataman last December 18, 2013 at the Datu Dizal Cutural Center in Lamitan City.
Together with RG Hataman were his wife Anak Mindanao Representative Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, Mayor Rose U. Furigay of Lamitan City, Vice Mayor Roderick Furigay of Lamitan City, Mayor Ingatun Istarul of Tipo Tipo, Mayor Talib Pawaki and Mayor Darussalam Lajid of Albarka.
Dubbed as ISKOLAR: Para sa Pagbabago, Para sa Bangsamoro, the scholarship program of RG Hataman aims to ensure that deserving ARMM constituents will have access to education and will be able to graduate tertiary level.
The program is in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) Students’ Financial Assistance Program (StuFAP) which also grants full and partial scholarship to students.
At the moment, ISKOLAR provides scholarships to students who are residents of ARMM and are currently enrolled in college level, medicine, law or masters program. In January another leg of screening will be conducted to cater incoming college freshmen.
The scholarship gives priority to students enrolled in courses related to accountancy, agriculture, fisheries, environment, information technology, law, medicine and public administration. According to Asst. Secretary Numeiry Jalani, the courses were identified based on the need of the ARMM for people specializing in those fields.
Scholars from other provinces will be given their certificates of scholarship on the following dates: December 19 for Maguindanao, December 24 for Sulu, December 25 for Tawi Tawi, December 27 for scholars studying in Manila and December 29 for Lanao del Sur.
About 3,000 students applied for the scholarship program and only 1,600 will be awarded with the scholarship certificates.
The ISKOLAR: Para sa Pagbabago, Para sa Bangsamoro is part of the Regional Governor’s “Serbisyong K” which is a program to facilitate direct assistance for Health (Kalusugan), Livelihood (Kabuhayan) and Education (Karunungan). It is headed by Chief of Staff Amihilda J. Sangcopan.
